They depend on a spring ("the main spring ") to provide energy to an oscillator (often a called "wheel balance ") while the spring is unrolled. The wheel oscillates approximately to 28.000 vibrations per hour, that means that your watch can lose several minutes in a month. The mechanical watches come in automatic or manual version.

If the second hand does not stop, it is a mechanism different from the original one, which means that it is of poor quality. The watches with Swiss mechanism are the only ones in which the seconds hand stops to set the time, but these are much more expensive.

What happens if the watch is delivered to me in bad conditions?
